VOL.3: ‘糸|虫’

in collaboration with dancer Heather Loraine, animator Xiaoling, and musician Gene-George Earle

‘糸|虫’ is a performance blending poetry, animation and floorwork woven around the life cycle of a butterfly. Drawing inspiration from the process of chrysalis/繭 and the Chinese proverb 作繭自縛 (caught in the cocoon spun around oneself), the performance seeks to examine 'dead time' against the anthropocentric gaze, and draw the audience into the ambiguity that such a space can represent; its intimacy and claustrophobia, or the border between being entombed and living in hope of change.
